JT's 2nd Birthday

Seeing as how this blog has just been started and all, a few of these beginning posts will be recaps of recent events in our lives. For the first of these, I’ll review the cultural event of the season that was JT’s 2nd birthday. In attendance was my cousin Darcy, her husband Dan and their baby Christiana, my aunt Sherrill (or as JT says, "Gamma Shewoh"), my uncle Kim, aunt Vicki and cousin Tyler (Tyler was up from Dallas), my cousin Alex (JT calls him "Big Al"), his wife Megan and of course "Uncle Gee-gee" (my brother Gideon).

It's a little hard to teach a 2 year old the concept of birthdays. In JT's case, he kind of had an idea it was a special day, that is until the presents started rolling in. Then he knew it was a special day. I love the look of eager anticipation in the picture above.

JT's favorite gifts were an assortment of die-cast cars of characters from the movie "Cars." The picture above shows you his first reaction after receiving "Lightening McQueen" and "Sally." He got a bunch more and not a day goes by that it isn't a high priority to play with them (he wouldn't go to sleep without them for the first week). His other big gift was a Fisher Price basketball hoop which he wasn't really hot about to begin with - he would only dunk the ball and get bored quickly. Now, as he's starting to shoot the ball, he loves it too. He's even made some H.O.R.S.E.-worthy shots from across the room and from behind the hoop where he has to throw it up and over the backboard (one of my proudest moments as a father).

By this time he had started to warm up to being the center of attention. And then...

And if blowing out the candles wasn't enough, he even got to eat the cake too!

Finally, it wouldn't be a true birthday party if you didn't get to play with your new toys right? Well, in a small ceremony, Alex and I handed down the torch so to speak. The two of us logged hour after hour playing with cars, trucks and the like. It was now time to teach the next generation of our ways.
Did I mention that "Circle of Life" was playing in the background?
All in all, it was a great party. Special thanks to Angie and those that were able to come. We just wish that everybody that reads this could have been there too!
Best wishes!

This party sounds eerily similar to Scott's 19th birthday, that we celebrated when we were at Ricks, including Scott eating his cake without a fork...
